Where WeBill Meters are set up to use the prepaid methodology Meters are charged whenever a Meter Reading comes in, generally every hour or half hour. Refer to Portfolio Module for setting up prepaid Meters.
The Charging Process occurs as follows:
- The Tariff Charges associated with a Meter are applied pro-rata to hourly charges. For example, where the Tariff Charge has a monthly charge, that charge is reduced to a daily charge then the pro-rata hourly charge is applied.
- Any surcharges applicable to the Tariff Charge are added on.
- If there are no surcharges there are no additional charges.
- The charges are then accumulated and the VAT is added to the accumulated amount (Total Charge).
- The Device balance is then reduced by the Total Charge.
- If the resulting balance is less than the Minimum Balance or less than or equal to zero, a command is issued to switch off the Meter.
- The Consumer will receive a notification that the Device will be switched off because the Available Balance is insufficient.
- If the Consumer manages to allocate funds to the Device to restore the Available Balance before the Device is switched off, then the switch off command will be deleted and the Device will not be switched off.
- If the Device is switched off it can only be Switched on when the Available Balance has been restored.
- The switch on is not immediate and will happen on the next hourly cycle.
